About Enleashed
Enleashed is building a new class of digital electricity market infrastructure designed for a decarbonised, reliability-critical, and software-defined energy system. The goal is simple but ambitious: to address the structural failures of today’s energy markets and replace them with a system that is fair, flexible, resilient, and fit for the future.
Research foundations
Enleashed is grounded in PhD research completed at Imperial College London, which develops a first-principles redesign of electricity market mechanisms.
A First-Principles Approach Combining Automatic Market Making, Holarchic Architectures and Shapley Theory
The thesis introduces a programmable Automatic Market Maker for electricity, embedding fairness directly into market clearing using Shapley value theory, and organising the system as a hierarchy of interacting local markets (a holarchy) that mirrors the physical grid.
Exploring where to start
Enleashed is exploring a range of potential locations to validate and demonstrate this new market architecture in practice. As an initial step, this site has been built with a focus on the Isle of Man, as a compact and well-defined power system that allows the ideas and tools to be made concrete and visible.
The problem
Electricity markets were designed for a world of large fossil generators and passive consumers. In today’s system of renewables, electrification, storage, and flexible demand, those designs are increasingly misaligned with physical reality:
The Enleashed approach
Enleashed replaces static, price-only market logic with a programmable, real-time allocation engine that aligns economic outcomes with physical feasibility and service priorities:
